WORSHIP
Where we are, He is in our midst
Worship is an act of offering ourselves to the Lord, Jesus Christ. Romans 12:1 states, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship."
Worship is a love offering. A wonderful exchange accompanies worship . . . as we offer ourselves to God, we receive from God (see Luke 17:5-9). All that we are, all that we have, all that we ever hope to be... offering that to God, is the heart of worship.
Another aspect of worship has to do with honoring the greatness of the Lord. The word worship means, ascribing worth, or worth-ship. Virtually every Christian worship service includes singing songs with lyrics filled with praise to the Lord.
WHY WE WORSHIP THE WAY WE DO
Most Christian churches share a nearly identical core statement of doctrine. Yet many have different practices. This page is dedicated to answering questions about why-we-do-what-we-do at Woodland Assembly of God.
Why do some stand when singing?
Why do some dance when the music is playing?
Why is praise audible and sometimes loud? It's not that God is hard of hearing.
Why are there a variety of musical instruments used in worship?
Simply put: because we can.
We stand, sit, sing, shout, be silent, lift hands, wave banners, . . . etc.
Jesus came to bring freedom to our thinking and, thus, our actions. We do not claim to "have arrived" but we create an atmosphere where one can worship without feeling pressure to be like anyone else. So enjoy yourself and enjoy God at any of our gatherings!
